People helping People
The ultimate birthday greeting card maker
Beth Catlin loves to make and send birthday cards to people. She sends them to neighbors, friends, acquaintances and many people she has never met. She has created these special greetings for people for 40 years. Even if she has only met you once and you never are in contact with you again she will remember your birthday for as long as she lives and send you a card.
This special gift comes from the fact that she is a savant and her special gift to the planet is her ability to remember names, addresses and birthdates. She makes and mails about 3,800 birthday cards a year to people she has me
The 50-year-old is a savant, who while being diagnosed as mentally challenged also has the amazing ability to recall numbers, dates and, of course, birthdays with computer-like precision.
When Catlin was first profiled by the Patriot-News in 1995, she was averaging about 1,400 cards a year. This year, she surpassed 3,800 with each date, name and address cataloged in her brain for life.
Most of the funding to continue her work comes through Elizabeth’s job at the S. Wilson Pollock Center for Industrial Training, a workshop for people with disabilities. All donations are appreciated. Creating and sending birthday greetings is as much a part of her daily routine as going to work and doing her chores.
On September 22, Elizabeth’s birthday people get to give back to her for her kindness and gift card to them over the years. She receives more than 200 cards, many bearing gifts of stamps.
Please send Beth a card and some stamps as a surprise for her birthday and wonderful service at:
